CORONATION MUGS FOR NETHER STOWEY SCHOOL CHILDREN

On Friday, 5 May, Cllr John Roberts, Chairman of the Parish Council and Cllr Margaret Hogg joined staff and students at Nether Stowey Primary School’s assembly. After some beautiful singing of a special Coronation song, “Sing For The King” by Matthew Crossey and Tom Kirkham, Cllr Roberts said:

Almost exactly seventy years ago it was the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and on that occasion many children were given china mugs or cups to mark that special day.
It  may be that some of your parents or grandparents still have those mugs or cups.
As you know tomorrow will be another very special day when we have the coronation of King Charles III and his wife Queen Camilla.
The Parish Council has decided that we could again mark this special day by giving each of the children in Nether Stowey School and Stowey Bears a coronation mug.

The presentation was the last event for the Cllr Roberts, who retires from the Parish Council this month after fourteen years as a Councillor, the last eight as Chairman. He will be much missed by all.

Chloe Holt said “As Headteacher of Nether Stowey C of E VC Primary School it was an honour and privilege to be part of the coronation mug giving to the children. This is a really exciting time and a wonderful memory for the children to look back on in years to come.  The children had a wonderful day celebrating the momentous occasion by wearing red, white and blue to school for the day. The bunting transformed the school hall and school site to excite the celebrations. Everyone enjoyed the festive activities, special coronation cupcakes made by the school kitchen and a whole school picnic. The rain did not dampen our spirits! The children have enjoyed learning about the monarchy and the coronation and sang beautifully. As always, the children did themselves and the school proud.”

A few surplus mugs will be available to children up to primary school age who live in Nether Stowey Parish but who do not attend either the school or Preschool Please contact Caro at clerk@netherstowey-pc.gov.uk or phone 01278 733779.
