We are lucky to be surrounded by miles of beautiful countryside to have so many Public Rights of Way – Public Footpaths – from which to enjoy it. But please stick to the routes of the Public Footpaths.
Other tracks are NOT public rights of way and should not be used. Do not wander across fields. This is as much for your safety as anything – agricultural vehicles are large and noisy and the driver may not be able to see, and definitely won’t be able to hear you. You are trespassing if you are anywhere other than a public footpath.
A map of the local Public Footpaths is here.
BUDLEY, INWOOD AND CRICKETER, FARMS
Warning signs have been put around the farms to tell walkers. This follows a number of near accidents. At Cricketer there is a lot of construction traffic so take care to follow any remaining diversions, particularly around the fenced compound. There are no public footpaths connecting Cricketer to the paths at Budley Farm. A map of the area showing the designated footpaths where you may safely walk is below and available here to download.

Somerset Council is primarily responsible for matters relating to public footpaths including maintaining the definitive map. There is more information on the Explore Somerset map.
The Parish Paths Liaison Officer (PPLO) is a volunteer role. The PPLO provides local parish support and advice to Somerset County Council’s ‘Rights of Way’ team who are responsible for maintaining the public footpaths in the parish. Our Parish Paths Liaison Officer is Tony Edney (0750 2221881)
Unfortunately we no longer have a dedicated volunteer strimmer. Until we find a replacement, maintenance of the paths reverts to Somerset Council who have a rolling schedule cutting most paths twice during the growing season and a few paths three times. Stowey Green Spaces are a volunteer group who do maintain many of the paths around the main part of the village and the Millennium/Jubilee Woods.
You can use the Explore Somerset map to directly report issues, such as overgrowth, a broken stile, a blocked path. Simply click the Report Issue button, click the map, select the path or furniture you are reporting and then add a description of the problem. You can add photos in some cases. Alternatively you can report problems via the Somerset Council website.
We currently have vacancies for Volunteer Strimmers. If you could be a volunteer please click here to go to Somerset Council’s website for further details. Equipment, training and costs are provided by Somerset Council and/or the Parish Council.
