Parish Council meetings are open for the public to attend but are not public meetings. In order to facilitate contributions by members of the public there is a public session at the beginning of the formal meeting.
During the public session, members of the public are welcome to address the Council on any matter relating to the agenda or on any other matter that they would like the Parish Council to consider at a future date. It is helpful if you inform the Chairman or the Clerk beforehand of any matter you wish to raise, so that the Clerk can have to hand any necessary information. Further details are available on page 2 of the agenda.
The Council is not required to give a response to a matter raised during the public session but may do so. Alternatively, the Chairman may direct the Clerk to follow the matter up or give a written response at a later date.
Please note that no decisions can be made and no expenditure approved on any item raised during the public session unless the matter has been legally notified on an agenda in advance.
At the end of the public participation session, the Chairman will resume the formal meeting under standing orders.
Members of the public are asked to respect the fact that this is a meeting of the Council to conduct Council business. They are not permitted to enter into the debate of agenda items unless invited by the Chairman. In this case, he will temporarily adjourn the meeting to allow that person (only) to speak.
The conduct of Parish Council meetings are governed by the Parish Council’s Standing Orders (re-adopted on 6 May 2021). These are available from the Clerk (by e-mail on request) or on the Council’s website by clicking the document name above.
The meeting will be held at the Church Centre and will start at 7pm. All are welcome. Please wear a mask, use hand sanitiser and observe social distancing.

We have been advised of a temporary road closure on Castle Street from the bus stop to the Post Office. It may affect the junction with Lime Street and St Mary Street. Wessex Water hope that the work will only take one day, but the closure is valid for 3 days in case.
The works are to repair a leak and cannot be delayed until the next road closure on 19 August (we did ask).

Follow the successful referendum on 6th May 2021, Sedgemoor District Council has now formally ‘made’ the Nether Stowey Neighbourhood Plan, and the plan now forms part of the Statutory Development Plan for the area. Planning decisions should be made in accordance with the Development Plan, unless there are other material considerations that indicate otherwise. The adopted Nether Stowey Neighbourhood Plan is available to view here: Nether Stowey Neighbourhood Plan – Adoption Version [4.58MB]

Stowey Shuttle is a local community car scheme, one of a number of similar schemes in West Somerset, which provides car journeys at cost, or sometimes free, to its registered members.
It is run entirely by volunteers who manage the scheme, receive and allocate requests for travel, and drive our passengers using their own cars.
Our drivers receive a mileage allowance for each journey, and we are supported by Somerset County Council and the scheme is linked to the bus pass scheme.
We always welcome more volunteers and at present would like to increase the number of our drivers. If you can offer yourself and your car or would just like to know more about what is involved, please ring Dave, our driver representative, on 01278 732466.
Paul Brierley
On behalf of the committee of Stowey Shuttle
The Local Audit & Accountability Act 2014 and the Accounts & Audit Regulations 2015 set out the responsibilities of all local councils in respect of their accounting and auditing procedures.
Each year, the Council’s financial accounts and statements are examined by an independent ‘internal’ auditor appointed by the Council.
The Council is also required to complete an ‘Annual Return’ which includes the findings of the Internal Auditor, together with Governance Statements and Financial Statements. This Annual Return is then submitted to another independent ‘external’ auditor for examination.
As part of this process, the Council must publish the unaudited Annual Return and must make arrangements for a period in which interested persons can inspect the Council’s accounts and related documents. If you are a registered local government elector (i.e. you appear on the electoral register for the area covered by this Council) you can also ask questions about the accounts and object to them
The Parish Council’s Annual Return was approved by the Parish Council at the meeting on 14 June. The period for the exercise of electors’ rights to inspect the accounts begins on Tuesday 15 June and ends on Monday 26 July during office hours by prior appointment.
